Pacific Island
The Pacific Ocean is the largest geographical feature on earth,
larger than all the land areas of the world combined. This
idyllic ocean is dotted with thousands of islands, some no
larger than a suburban back yard. The names themselves conjure
images of times past and great voyages of discovery, etched in
history - American Samoa, Cook Islands, Fiji Islands, The
Hawaiian Islands, Kiribati, New Caledonia, Niue, Papua New
Guinea, Samoa, Solomon Islands, Tahiti, Tonga, Tuvalu, Vanuatu
and they all have a charm and allure which has attracted
explorers, adventurers and travellers since the dawn of time.
Each island grouping has a distinct culture and many dialects,
but all share a reputation for beauty, atmosphere and the
friendliest welcome in the world. A notable feature of all the
islands is the colonial influence that remains from French and
British occupations: New Caledonia for example is still entirely
French - speaking, while rugby remains the national sport in
Fiji. So get island hopping and find your own piece of paradise!
