Why
Baalbek is special
Baalbek in Lebanon is one of the world's grandest archaeological
sites. It's hard to imagine the enormity and greatness of the
Roman-built Baalbek temples without actually being there.
Temple of Jupiter
This temple was once twice the size of Athens's Parthenon.
Another indicator is the size of several of the temple's
brick-shaped cut stones - they measure 20 meters (63 feet) in
length. The Corinthian pillars that supported the Baalbek temple
roof were massive, too. Six still stand (see photo).
Temple of Bacchus
It's one of the largest and best preserved ancient Roman
sanctuaries. The Temple of Bacchus (like, the Temple of Jupiter
and some other historic Baalbek structures) was severely damaged
relatively recently (mid-18th century) by a fierce earthquake.
However, today, it’s in better shape than its neighbors.
How Baalbek got its name
Baalbek means "Baal City" in Phoenician. It was named after the
sun god Baal, the one now associated with pagan rituals.

معابد
بالبک در لبنان بالبک یکی از معروفترین مکان های باستانی
جهان است . تصور زیبایی و شکوه معابد رومی بالبک بدون آنکه
واﻘﻌﺄآنجا باشیم مشکل است . معبد ﮋﻮپیتر : این معبد زمانی
وسعتش دو برابر بنای پارتنون آتن بود . مقیاس دیگر آن
معادل چند قطعه از سنگهایی است که طول آنها به 20 مترمی
رسد . معبد باکوس : این معبد یکی از بزرگترین مکانهای مقدس
رم باستان است . معبد باکوس ( مانند معبد ﮋوپیتر و تعدادی
از بناهای دیگر تاریخی بالبک ) در نیمه اول قرن 18 بوسیله
زلزله بزرگی به شدت تخریب شد. البته در حال حاضر این بنا
دارای شکل و ظاهر بهتری نسبت به همسایگانش است. بالبک به
معنای شهر بالک در فونسیان است . این عنوان از نام خدای
خورشید بال گرفته شده است , نامی که در حال حاضر مربوط به
مراسم مذهبی کافران می باشد . دو کتاب راهنمای سفر در مورد
بالبک وجود دارند. یکی کتابی به نام ( معابد بالبک که
تاثیر عمیقی ایجاد می کنند . اردن , سوریه و لبنان کتابهای
همراه و دیگری کتابی با عنوان معابد بالبک که در مقیاس
کامل شان بسیار پر عظمت هستند.
