Why Mecca
is special
Mecca (Makkah) in Saudi Arabia is Islam's holiest city and the
birthplace of the prophet Muhammad, the founder of the Islamic
faith. Over a billion Muslims around the globe face Mecca in
devout prayer five times daily.
Holy pilgrimage
The Holy Koran dictates that all Muslims in good health with
adequate finances must make a pilgrimage (called the Hajj) to
Mecca at least once in their lifetimes. About two million
Muslims (from some 100 countries) make this religious journey
each year. The visits are concentrated in the last month of the
Islamic calendar. Mecca bursts at the seams during this peak
period.
The sacred Ka’ba
Mecca's focal point is the sacred black Ka'ba (see photo). This
outdoor, near-cubic structure is draped in black and houses the
holy Black Stone that Muslims believe was given by heaven to the
prophet Abraham.
As they pray, hundreds of thousands of shoulder-to-shoulder
pilgrims circle the Ka'Ba in moving concentric rings. Each
pilgrim must complete seven circuits.
The Ka'Ba is surrounded by the Great Mosque, which in turn is
encircled by the city of Mecca.
Only Muslims may visit Mecca. Non-Muslims who sneak into this
holy city risk public execution.
مکه در عربستان
مکه در عربستان مقدس ترین شهر برای
مسلمانان است . ا ین شهر محل تولد حضرت محمد (پیامبراسلام)
می باشد کسی که
بنیانگذار دین اسلام بود. درهرروزبیشتر از یک میلیارد
مسلمان در اطراف خانه کعبه
پنج مرتبه نماز می خوانند. قرآن به همه مسلمانانی که در
سلامت کامل جسمی هستند و
استطاعت مالی دارند امر می کند که به حج بروند ( حداقل در
طول زندگیشان یک مرتبه
فریضه حج را انجام دهند. ) سالانه در حدود دو میلیون
مسلمان از صد کشور جهان این
سفر مذهبی را انجام می دهند. زمان این سفر در آخرین ماه از
تقویم اسلامی می باشد.
در این زمان شهر مکه در شلوغ ترین وقت خود می باشد. نقطه
مرکزی شهر مکه کعبه می
باشد . ساختار بیرونی کعبه مزین با پارچه های مشکی است و
در درون آن سنگ سیاه مقدسی
وجود دارد که مسلمانان بر این اعتقادند که این سنگ از بهشت
به حضرت ابراهیم اعطا
شده است. در هنگام نماز , صدها و هزاران زاﺌر شانه به شانه
هم به دور حلقه
متحدالمرکزی به دور کعبه حرکت می کنند. هر زاﺌر باید هفت
دور کامل به دور کعبه
بزند. کعبه توسط مسجد عظیمی احاطه گشته و شهر مکه در اطراف
این مسجد قرار گرفته
است.
